New in Holland: Fashionbox

I love the blog Follow Fashion and on their blog I saw the article about Fashionbox. And I hoped it was what I thought it was..

In the USA, a similar thing is available, the Birchbox, and since I read a lot of American blogs, I was hoping something like that would be available in Holland too.

And now it is! When you sign up for only €14,95 (postage included), you will get a monthly box with 6 beauty and fashion items. It can be accessories, jewelry, magazines or discounts for webshops. You can also cancel it monthly, but I doubt you want to do that!

I am seriously excited and I immediately signed up. Sign it here, and if you like Fashionbox on Facebook, you can also win a XXL Fashionbox! They're also on Twitter!

Are you gonna order the Fashionbox?

I quit sugar: how I do it.

After reading both the I quit sugar program and cookbook (my reviews can be found here and here, and buy the e-books here and here) , I decided to do a post on how I benefit from the no sugar.

I'm not as strict as Sarah Wilson, as in the program she quits fruit as well during the 8 weeks. The only sugar I've quit is added sugar. I still eat natural sugars, so I haven't quit fruit, honey and jam (but I don't eat much  of them anyway).

So, while I still eat fruit, 90% of the time, I eat food without sugar. That means no sauces with sugar added (that is a lot), I changed from white pasta/white bread to whole weat pasta and bread, my breakfast is either a slice of bread or a whole weat cracker with either honey, jam or organic (no sugar added) peanut butter. I also crave a lot less cookies or chocolate. If I crave chocolate, I go for extra dark or those with stevia added (I found that on in the organic shop near me, I don't know if it's available world wide. You may want to do a search on that). I normally drink my coffee with sugar, but I've changed that to stevia (and even when I occasionally do have sugar in my coffee, I find it too sweet).

Since I read the e-book, I've changed little bits in my lifestyle, plus I started working out more. I eat more nuts and I add chia seeds and flax seeds to my smoothies, and generally eat healthier.

If you have read the IQS e-book, you know that fruit juices aren't all that good. A glass of apple juice contains as much sugar as a glass of coke, and that is 10-12 teaspoons. When you read it like that, it's scary.

When you quit soda or fruit juice, it can be hard at first. What to drink instead? Why not add a splash of lime or lemon juice to your water to spice it up? Add some cinnamon to your coffee or tea, or drink coconut water or coconut milk instead.

When you're craving for a snack, eat some nuts. You can eat activated nuts or regular ones. Or drink some water. Sometimes when you're craving a snack, your body really needs water.

I really benefit from this lifestyle, because my migraines are almost gone, I have more energy and less slumps and I feel less bloated. And because I drink more water, my skin looks amazing. I do have set backs occassionally, but in general I do okay. It also helps that I feel better when I don't eat a lot of sugar.

The only thing that I want to change is baking. I love baking, and I need to change my recipes so I can keep enjoying the cupcakes, muffins and pies without sugar. If you have any recipes without sugar, please let me know in the comments!

Have you read the IQS e-book and cookbook? Are you planning to change your lifestyle?

Movie Review: We bought a zoo

My DF and I recently saw "We bought a zoo" and we loved it!

We bought a zoo features Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson and is based on a true story.

It's about a father, Benjamin and two kids, Dylan and Rosie, who recently lost their wife and mother. Benjamin decides to quit his dayjob and find a new place to live. And you've guessed it, they find the perfect house, but they have to buy the zoo attached to it as well.

At first, Benjamin struggles to manage the zoo, but with a little help of Kelly (played by Scarlet Johansson), he can open the zoo in time.

The movie shows the relation between Benjamin and his two kids. Rosie is hilarious and cute, and Dylan is not only your typical teenager, but also one struggling with grieve and falling in love. Of course, Benjamin is also grieving, but that's shown way later in the movie.

We really enjoyed this movie as it was funny (the animals are hilarious), sometimes I had to wipe away a tear and it was cute.

Have you seen this movie? What did you think of it?

I quit sugar cookbook - available now!

As a huge fan of Sarah Wilson, I bought her IQS book in the pre-sale, but if you've missed that, it's available now!

This book is 109 pages thick and filled with delicious recipes and gorgeous photos. I haven't actually made any recipes out of this book, but all of them look so yummy. Don't be scared off by the title, because she may have quite sugar, Sarah Wilson shows that she hasn't quit the delicious food.

The e-book has recipes written by Gwyneth Paltrow, Maggie Beer, David Gillespie and more. The book is well written, has lots of handy tips, and the fab bit what I love is that you can print recipe shopping lists so easily!

I would certainly recommend this book, not only if you are on the IQS program, but also if you are a foodie, love natural and good food, but this book is also good for getting ideas for more delicious recipes!

If you have missed it, you can buy the 8-week I Quit Sugar e-book here, and my review is available here.

The past week

Not too many pictures for this week, as I've not been feeling very well. Hopefully next week will be better!

What I've been reading the past week. Really recommend this book!

I went shopping in Amsterdam last Friday and this is what I got:

This is an impression of what I saw on my weekly walk with my father.

On the road, it really was summer for a whole day!
